Monday inspiration: Self awareness as key to success

Yesterday evening I accidentally watched a music talent show (Idols SA) and I couldn’t just stop laughing because it was totally hilarious. It was Idols wooden Mic. That category which simply belongs to the big ‘dreamers’. The people who believe that they are talented singers and no one can tell them anything different.

What inspired this article is the young man in the wooden mic category who could not stand being told by the judges that he could not sing. He was terribly hurt and could not control his anger at hearing the truth. He even ended up lashing out at the judges and kept ranting about how he was cheated and how much he believed that he deserved to win the competition.
The man must have been told by a couple of people that he couldn’t sing but he has told himself that he can sing. So you can imagine his frustration at hearing the opposite from the judges. However, the problem is that he lacks full self-awareness. He is unable to identify his actual potential. He has been living in denial for a long time and that can be frustrating for anyone. We all love to build castles in the air and that is a huge problem.
In order, to succeed at anything in life, it is important to first of all, know yourself. You need to know who you are; identify your strengths and weaknesses. Living in denial can be very damaging and basically stunts your growth. The young man on Idols was twenty four years old and has auditioned four times on the show. Sounds like a man with determination and ambition, you may say. But is this really determination? If he has auditioned four times and has been told the same thing; that is definitely not a lie. It is also when you are aware of yourself that you would be able to move forward in life. I wish you all the best as you embark on the journey of self discovery if you don't already know yourself.
Remain happy and spread happiness around. Xoxo.
