See what it looks like to be a refugee in your own country [photos]

Is there anything worse than being a refugee in your own country? That is the story of the many people who have been displaced as a result of continued attacks by Boko Haram in communities in Nigeria. I just found pictures depicting the living condition of these people and it’s really sad. Apparently, that is a refugee camp in Yola, Adamawa state. Things like these make me wonder why there is even something called a government in Nigeria. But it is Nigeria after all so what can I say. Please remain happy and spread happiness around and see more photos after the cut. Xoxo

Nigeria: "N' Assembly is an assembly of looters and thieves" - Obasanjo says

Former President Olusegun Obasanjo is one person who has publicly expressed his dissatisfaction with the Johnathan administration and never stops expressing his thoughts about the administration whenever he has the chance to. Speaking at the public presentation of the autobiography of Justice Mustapha Akanbi, in Abuja yesterday Nov. 26th, Obasanjo rubbished the National Assembly, referring to it as an Assembly of looters and thieves.
Isn’t it funny how we Nigerians love to do finger pointing while ignoring our own flaws? What is happening in Nigeria today is a legacy that has been left behind by past leaders and follow follow is a Nigerian thing. Corruption and looting is a pattern in Nigerian leadership so it is not surprising that he said that. Please read the rest of what he said after the cut if you are interested and in the meantime, remain happy and spread happiness around. Xoxo

Racism: are black people just being overly paranoid?

A tweet got my attention yesterday and I have been hunted by the tweet. A white girl tweeted, “black people should just go back to Africa we shouldn’t have bought them in the first place” and people could not stop insulting her about it. I don’t know why there is so much chaos in the world about this notion of race. Are black people just being paranoid or do they really have an argument? I am so tired of hearing things like, “the cashier at the store treated me badly because I am black”, and “that only happened because I am black and the other person is racist”. While we make all these comments I think we seriously forget something; in constructing others as different, we in turn construct ourselves as different too.

University of Jos shut down indefinitely

Students of the University of Jos protested against the unreasonable hike in their fees and that has led to the university being shut down. According to the students, the fee which was N27,800 has now been increased to N60,000 and all effort by the student union government to speak with the Vice Chancellor of the university Prof. Hayward Babale Mafuyai, was unfruitful.
This means the students don’t get a chance to write their exams and that will lead to a delay in their studies. This is the same reason why Nigerians who can afford to, send their children to study abroad. What happens to people who cannot afford to study abroad? It’s unbelievable the things that happen in Nigeria. Will things ever change?
Please remain happy and spread happiness around. Xoxo

Henry Okah Claims President Johnathan masterminded the October 1st bombing?

Oh no! Is this a joke or something? In a video posted by Al jazeera, Henry Okah, a member of Movement for the Emancipation of the Niger Delta (MEND), claims that President Johnathan is behind the October bombing in Abuja. In the video, the MEND member tells Aljazeera via a telephone call from a Johannesburg prison where he is being held that the bombing was supposedly used for political gain by the Johnathan administration. Monday inspiration: "If you don't like it, change it"

It’s a beautiful Saturday and the weather is all nice and hot as Cape Town summer or spring, I am not quite sure which one, because this is the only city that you get all the four seasons in one day. Anyway, all I know is that it was a beautiful Saturday so I thought to go window shopping since I had been drowning in my academics all week.

I got ready and headed out to the beautiful and busy Cavendish mall with a friend. We walked around and got into all the shops we could including the ones we knew we couldn’t afford just to make ourselves feel good. Well, we go to the expensive shops in preparation for the future when we can afford it and to console ourselves too. Have you noticed that for some reason, they seem to have nicer and more colourful things? Like exactly what you want?

Question of the day: Is NYSC beneficial to Nigerian youths?

Happy people, I would love to know from you all if NYSC is beneficial to Nigerian youths. I have always had my reservations about this program since childhood when I would hear about the youths being killed in the north and all sorts. I couldn’t stop asking myself why a young person who has suffered through school without any form of support from the government would be required to serve the same government as a way of giving back. The students suffer and pay their fees alone! What does the government really give to a Nigerian student? They don’t even get the unreasonable allowance on time. Okay, I haven’t served and will most likely not do any youth service but if you have please can you share your experience and how you benefited from it? By the way, the above picture shows a group of youth corpers in River State protesting over nonpayment of allowance. Really now?

Anyway, remain happy and spread happiness around. Xoxo

My true life story: There is time for everything in life; time to dream and time to actualize dreams

Life has been really good to me over the past years and God has been consistent in my life too. Today I have decided to share a story board of my journey in the University over the past three years. I have been honoured with four dean’s merit award for outstanding academic performance and it all just goes to prove that hard work is everything.

I have had my fair share of challenges in life, from failing fifth year of high school and dropping out to not being able to afford a tertiary education. All I had was a dream that I would one day have all the education I needed in this life and for one minute, I never let go of that dream. I did everything possible and deprived myself of a lot of vanities in order to actualize that dream.

"Don't judge a book by its size"

After a long semester of hard work, I can finally relax and breathe. What a better way to relax than to read a good book! Yeah a good friend gave me a copy of Chimamanda Adichie's new book, Americanah and I am so enjoying my relaxation I must say!

No, I am not about to write a review on the book because I am still busy with it. However, I will still share something about what the book is doing to me with you all. I love to read and if you know me you are probably tired of hearing this but my love for words can never be overemphasized. I read anything no matter the cover or the size.

"Crush the cockroaches" - Katsina state governor, Shema, caught on video telling supporters about opposition [video]

PIC. 12. GOV. IBRAHIM SHEMA OF KATSINA
Nigerian Politics is one thing I try to stay away from but there are some things I read and as a person, I cannot just avoid commenting. Apparently, there is a viral video online portraying the Katsina state Governor, Ibrahim Shema, encouraging his party members to “crush” and possibly “kill” opposition politicians in the state which he refers to cockroaches. “You should not be bothered with ‘cockroaches of politics. “Cockroaches are only found in the toilet even at homes. “If you see a cockroach in your house what do you do? Said Shema.  And the crowd responds:  “You kill it!”

I have no idea why politics in Nigeria has to be like this? And this is supposed to be a democratic and free state. Indeed! This is how people go about stirring up violence and disrupting the peace of the country all in the name of politics. This is truly a shame but I am not surprised at all. This is Nigeria (TIN) and anything goes. Please find a transcript and a link to the video after cut if you are interested. Remain happy and spread happiness around. Xoxo

Nigeria: Gombe residents burn suspected suicide bomber alive

It seems that most Nigerians have had it with these suicide bombers. So a suspected male suicide bomber, who allegedly had a bomb hidden under his cloth was burnt alive this afternoon at the Gombe Line Park in Gombe state. According to the residents of the area, the man was preparing to blow himself up before he was apprehended and set ablaze by the angry mob who refused to hand him over to the police. Happy people what do you guys think about jungle justice? Is it right or wrong and is it justifiable under any circumstance? Let’s talk about it. See more photos below and remain happy. Xoxo

Nigeria: Extension of state of emergency rule in Borno, Adamawa and Yobe approved by Federal Government

Happy people, I am so happy to be back to blogging again! How I have missed sharing information with you guys! Like I said, I was busy with an important chapter of my life and now that chapter is closed so I can come back to sharing any info worth sharing with you and all the gists about why I have been so busy too.
So recently, the attacks by Boko Haram on Nigerians living in the north has been on the rise and the bombings were taking place almost every day. As a result, the Federal Government has approved the extension of state of emergency rule in Borno, Adamawa and Yobe States. These are the three states that have been subjected to these attacks the most.
