Meet the Nigerian mathematician who broke a 50-year-old academic record in Japanese University

Ufot Ekong, a Nigerian student who studied in Japan has broken a record by achieving the highest grades at a university in Japan which no one has for almost 50 years. Ufot Ekong, graduated with a first class degree in electrical engineering from Tokai University in Tokyo and scored the best marks the university has seen since 1965.  

The sterling mathematician began his journey to success in his first semester, by solving a 30-year-old maths equation. While in the university, Ufot won six awards for academic excellence. He is currently working for Nissan and already has two patents for electronic car design to his name.

And to think that he achieved all this while holding down two jobs to support his education! Hard work indeed! Now this is a story I wouldn’t miss sharing because academic achievements is something this brand is about. And hey, it appears he is from my state. Great stuff!

Happy, the beautiful man at the gym and her workout

Happy people, I believe you lovelies are having a better time than me. Well, if you are not, just hang in there because it is well. I'm still drowning in books but I hope to take a break soon. I was gono share this story earlier but books got me. To me, it's only a story because I am not a motivational speaker but if you find it inspiring, great! The encounter inspired me though but I'll leave you to make whatever out of the story. Enjoy below... 

It was one of those days where I was over exhausted from so much reading and writing academic essays. My body felt like it had just been through two weeks of farm work. But I knew I just had to get to the gym. If it was the days of no PCOS, I would have probably listened to it and stayed in bed. I miss those days though when working out was just for fun and I could do it sluggishly. Now it is a duty and lifestyle so when the spirit is eager and the body is weak, the body just has to catch up with the spirit. I got out of bed, grumbling like a child who has just been sent to go wash dishes in the middle of a scrabble game with friends. I took longer than normal to get into my gym outfit but I eventually did and headed out.

Discrimination at its peak: Ghanaian airline reportedly refuses to fly wheelchair passenger?

WHAT!!!! Is this some kind of a joke? Apparently, a Nigerian wheelchair passenger was not allowed to fly on some Ghanaian airline not because she could not afford the air ticket, but because she was on a wheelchair! What sort of company policy openly discriminates against 'differently-abled' people? This is sickening really. Imagine being denied something not because you cannot afford it but because of your difference. Things really have to change in this part of the world. 'Differently-abled' people have rights like every living being and should not be discriminated against.

Man sets self and house ablaze after stabbing mother

Wow! What a sad story! Stories like this often make me wonder about the notion of humanity. According to reports, a young man stabbed his mother and set himself and their home ablaze following an argument with the mother. I am just imagining what the argument was about that would lead to this. The Abia State capital was shaken Tuesday following the report that one Mr. Tochukwu Ogbonna, aged below 30, had stabbed his mother at night and set himself and their house ablaze.

He died in the inferno. The incident occurred at their residence on No. 12, Bonny Street, Umuahia. His mother, who was taken to the Federal Medical Centre Umuahia, it was gathered, is responding to treatment.

Their co-tenant who pleaded anonymity said the incident occurred about 11.00p.m. on Tuesday when a hot argument ensued between Tochukwu and his mother, which prompted him to stab his mother with a knife and thereafter killed their dog with the same knife. Tochukwu was described by a neighbour as a known drug addict, who “terrorised his family members and the entire neighborhood.”

I marvel at the creativity of Capcom®’s theme makers, to have formed the characters in the movie-turned-game. Usually, all I want to do is play, smash, beat, defeat…[you may guess]. Looking closely at each character, you admire their calm posture and fighting tactic. Simply fantastic! Yet a closer look, and you’re captured by the character named Guile. May we share some thought.

Debate of the week: Should African languages be used as the medium of instructruction in education?

This week's debate is focused on the medium of teaching in primary and secondary schools. There is a lot of debate surrounding the languages of learning and teaching in African schools. The argument is that Africa is highly linguistically diverse and as a result imposing English which is not the home language of students on them is detrimental to learning. It is believed that learning in the languages that they know best will lead to better learning. What do you guys think? Should indigenous languages be included as media of instructions in schools? Now that the European League is on recess....

The last series of football matches in major leagues across Europe were concluded this last Sunday and it has been a relatively short season. League titles were won across the major leagues by the favorites, Chelsea, Juventus, Bayern Munich, Barcelona and PSG. Also the race for European Golden boot was also by the favorite. My team finished just exactly where they have consistently finished in the last 10 years, garnered enough point just to make it to Europe next season.

On June 6, 2015, the last and arguably the most important match of the season will be played in Berlin with Juventus locking horns with FC Barcelona in a much contested run to the final of the Champions league. The big question on the minds of billions of soccer fans is one thing, what would our weekends look like for the next two months.

Sad! Ogun state 'mother' hacks son to death

Oh dear what a sad and annoying story! This is why I say egg and sperm shouldn’t be free to everyone. God was just way to generous! Why kill your own child? I just can’t stand it when children who didn’t ask to be brought into this world are put in the middle of any issue. Firstly, people shouldn’t just have kids because egg and sperm is free. While the world joyously celebrated Children’s Day yesterday, a woman identified as Funmilayo Adeyanju, allegedly hacked her own son to death at Ogunso area of Otta in Ado-Odo/Otta Local Government Area of Ogun State.

YAY!!! It's May 29th and a new dawn for Nigerians!

 

The much anticipated day has finally arrived! Yes it is May 29^th and that means a new dawn on new governance for Nigerians. Like every Nigerian, I am full of expectations and hope about how this new leadership will benefit us as a people. I know that Nigerians have normalized suffering and bad leadership, however, I strongly believe this will change one day. I hope they will wake up one day and realize enduring pain shouldn’t be an option if you can get rid of it. Nigerians have faith that Buhari is the man to rescue them and he has shown a willingness to do so. I can only hope that the next four years will prove Nigerians right and you will lead with integrity sir. All the best.

Oh dear! That got me so emotional lol. Okay Happy calm down, it’s supposed to be a happy day. I really wish I could watch the inauguration but hmmm no time. Will try and peep though.

Please what's the fuss with this Yusuf Buhari guy?

So President (yes president cus it's the 29th) Buhari's son (pictured) has been trending for being "deliciously handsome" and people are going kuku about him and I am so confused. Apparently, they say he is handsome and ladies, especially, have been going crazy. I’m still not sure why because I really can’t see it. Maybe I need specs lol. Please the guy is just there jare. Wahala! Meet the two men who say they are trekking for Govt. Godswill Akpabio

Mbok mkpo asie aba o! How do we stop this? Apparently, the two men pictured, identified as Peter Ukeme and Ekong Ridd say they are trekking from Ikot Ekpene to Uyo in honor of Governor Godswill Akpabio and governor-elect Dr Udom Emmanuel. Please this is becoming redundant guys. Can they just stop already? No be only Ikot Epene to Uyo. Ikot Ekpene to Uyo should be less than 20 minutes’ walk so why not Cameroon to Uyo?

Love is a verb: "Don't just tell me you love me, show me"

Oh dear! I haven't written anything in a while and my apologies to all of you. It's been crazy out here. To all of you that sent me messages, thank you very much for your concerns. Yeah I know the blog has been so so and I promise I am working on improving it soon and I took all your suggestions into consideration. Anyway, love has been stressing me too and I have decided to write about it. Enjoy below and share your experiences...

Call me crazy but I want what I want and nothing can change that. I want a man who will love me more than his own life; a man who will need me so much that he won’t stand being away from me for one second; a man who will be unable to even conceive the thought of hurting me talk more of the action. A man who is willing to live his life for me and him. Yes that is the man I want and until then, I am happy as I am – single!

Love and relationship for me is a serious thing. I often think my idea of love is different from that of others but is obtainable. For me, love is everything else but lies and deceit. It is a verb and that means it must be accompanied by action. No please don’t tell me you love me alone, I wanna see it hun. It has to translate to actions. The action and the words must complement each other.

TF? Man goes naked over inability to buy fuel in Lagos

Na wah oh! I knew it was bad but I never knew it was this bad. According to reports an unidentified man took it all off because he was unable to buy fuel due to the lingering fuel scarcity in Lagos. Hmmm it is well. I hope he was able to buy the fuel in the end.

GTB announces early closure of all branches due to fuel scarcity

This is really serious indeed! GTB to close from 1pm from Monday due to fuel scarcity? When media houses, banks and telecoms shut down, how will the country function? How will the employees even get to work? Naija, I hail thee! I am still waiting for a statement from the government. Or did I miss it? By the way, why isn't anyone trekking to protest against this?
